Warm Up, Kool Down, We Run This Town
This year, I celebrated my 10th anniversary as a Le Bonheur Associate. My very first day on the job was Feb. 14, 2008, which was also the groundbreaking ceremony for what was then just the dream of a “new hospital” – a 12-story, 255-bed facility where ultimately, more than 250,000 children a year would gravitate for exceptional pediatric care. That Valentine’s Day morning, our state-of-the-art hospital was still just a heart-shaped mound of dirt, but it didn’t matter – I had already fallen in love.
Ten years later, Le Bonheur ranks in eight out of nine specialties as one of the best children’s hospitals in the country. We have achieved the highest levels of recognition in nursing excellence and trauma care, and our Associate engagement scores are in the nation’s top four percent. The new hospital is a dream realized, where children from all over the world find hope and healing.
In honor of 10 years of meaningful, enriching and challenging work, and in celebration of my fourth year donning the Kool-Aid Man costume for the Pumpkin Run 5K, I’ve set a goal to raise $4,000 for Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
I’m in it for the kids and families who never, ever stop fighting. I’m in it for the caregivers who are heroes every day, saving lives, bringing hope, offering solace, bearing the light. I’m in it for the hundreds of volunteers, parent mentors and family partners who give their time, energy, hearts and souls to make the path a little smoother for the next family to walk down it.
Three weeks from now, I’ll shimmy into the big red (extremely hot, minimally breathable) suit and hit the road for Le Bonheur to do you all proud. Please consider making a donation to Le Bonheur and/or joining me for the race on Oct. 20. With your gift, we can bridge the gap between what the hospital already provides and what we know our patients and families deserve.
Le Bonheur matters to Memphis, and your support matters to Le Bonheur. Thank you for your consideration and for the gift of your friendship!
