Pumpkin Run 2019

Thank you for visiting the Blakelee's Heroes team page for the 2019 Le Bonheur Pumpkin Run 5k. This will be our first year to participate in the Pumpkin Run. We will be walking to honor our little Wonder Woman, Blakelee Emerson Lewis and the more than 250,000 children and their families who come to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital for exceptional care.

Nearly a year ago, my niece, Blakelee, lost her 7-month fight against heart and lung disease. From the time she was born on January 30 to the time of her passing on September 7, she spent her entire life in NICU or CVICU.

She spent her first 19 days in NICU at Germantown Methodist before being transferred to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. She spent another 32 days in NICU at Le Bonheur before having heart surgery on March 22. The surgery was a success and she was moved to CVICU, but that was only the beginning.

Blakelee spent the remaining 169 days of her life in CVICU on one hell of a roller coaster ride. The morning after her heart surgery, Blakelee coded. Doctors performed chest compressions on her for 56 minutes while the medical staff readied a life sustaining machine called ECMO. She was on the ECMO for five days. Throughout her remaining days, she continued to fight. She fought through pulmonary hypertension, acid reflux, a G-tube insertion, multiple infections, a heart catheter procedure, near-constant connection to a ventilator and pulmonary stenosis - a life-threatening heart and lung condition.

Even though we lost our little angel, Le Bonheur will forever hold a special place in our hearts, especially all of the CVICU nurses and doctors who became our second family. I cannot even put into words to tell you what all Le Bonheur did for Blakelee and my family. That is why I want to raise money for Le Bonheur so they can continue supporting children and their families. My goal is to raise $500 but would love to surpass that goal!

Please help us help them by donating or joining our team to walk in her honor. Also, please spread the word by sharing this page with your friends and family. My family and I thank you in advance for your generosity, it really means a lot!
